Honored lawyers were awarded in the Kazan City Hall

(KZN.RU, November 27). The awarding ceremony of the All-Russian Legal Award of Gabriel Shershenevich and the award “Lawyer of the Year of the RT” took place in the Kazan City Hall today. Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the RT, Asgat Safarov, the head of the Presidential Administration of the RT, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, co-chairs of the Association of Lawyers of Russia Sergey Stepashin and Pavel Krashennikov, and Ildar Khalikov, the chairman of the Tatarstan regional branch of the Association of Lawyers of Russia, attended the event.

The legal profession is among the respected and sought after in society worldwide, noted Rustam Minnikhanov in his speech. “Today there is no area of life that could do without legal support. The Republic of Tatarstan with its powerful industry and developed economy, high investment attractiveness is highly in need of law experts”, said the President of the RT. He marked that material incentives and recognition of the merits of the professional community play an important role in enhancing the prestige of the profession. The Association of Lawyers of Russia annually presents the highest legal award “Lawyer of the Year” and a number of other prestigious awards. “It is great that one of them is awarded in Kazan. This is the prize of Gabriel Shershenevich, a great Russian civilist, professor of Kazan and Moscow universities, who made a significant contribution to the development of civil law. The ceremony is held for the second time and becomes a good tradition”, added R. Minnikhanov.

13 years have passed since the creation of the Association of Lawyers of Russia. According to the President of the RT, during this time, the organization successfully accomplishes the tasks assigned to it in providing qualified legal assistance, improving the quality of legal education and the legal culture of citizens. “I am sure that you justify the trust put by President of Russia Vladimir Putin who first joined the Association”.

R. Minnikhanov noted that the high level of authority of the Association of Lawyers of Russia confirms the fact that, in accordance with an act of the Government of the Russian Federation, the organization will represent the interests of Russian citizens in the US courts on the violation of their rights and freedoms. “The achievements of the Association as a whole are the results of the activities of its regional branches. Last year, Ildar Khalikov was elected chairman of the Tatarstan branch. This has given new impetus to the development of the organization. I wish you not to stop at what has been accomplished, continue to search and implement new directions”, the President of the RT concluded and then presented state awards of Tatarstan.

The laureates of the current award of Gabriel Shershenevich received their awards as well. This year they were Vasily Vitryansky, Ph. D. in Law, retired deputy chairman of the Supreme Arbitration Court of the Russian Federation, and Taliya Khabrieva, the director of the Institute of Law and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation, reports the press service of the President of the RT.
