(KZN.RU, May 17, by Taisiya Basharkina). The Vasiliev Picture Gallery will find a new home in the heart of the city: at the intersection of Bauman and Astronomicheskaya streets.
It will be recalled that currently The Konstantin Vasilyev Gallery is located in a remote area, at 61 Gvardeyskaya Street. The new location in the historic city center is definitely an improvement. The building will have to be renovated before the pictures are moved in.
As Mr. Il’sur Metshin noted, the name of Konstantin Vasilyev is a cultural brand, which must be carefully preserved and become available to both tourists and residents. "The project will be implemented before the end of this year,” he promised.
Konstantin Vasilyev’s legacy has a special significance for Kazan. The artist graduated from the Kazan Art School and lived and worked not far from Kazan - in the village of Vasilyevo. His creative ideas are widely known in Russia and have found response from thousands of fans.
The Vasiliev Gallery is unique in Russia’s practice because this private collection is supported by municipal funds. Only eight of the 96 paintings are owned by the city. The others are the property of the gallery director Gennady Pronin, Konstantin Vasilyev’s close friend since college days. Gennady Pronin has repeatedly declared his readiness to present the collection to Kazan on the condition that it is housed in a proper building.
