Ilsur Metshin opened the I Kazan City Olympics

 (KZN.RU, January 22, Renat Shirmanov). Today the I Kazan City Olympics started in Ak Bars Sports Hall. From the day employees of all sectors of municipal services will become participants of a large-scale sports and fitness program developed by the leadership of Kazan. The opening ceremony of Kazan-2011 Olympics was attended by Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Kazan, Rafis Burganov, Minister of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism, heads of the district administrations of Kazan.

It has been repeatedly noted that a large number of modern sports complexes erected for the Universiade-2013 first of all must be used by residents of Kazan. Rustam Minnikhanov, President of Tatarstan charged to organize the work of the Universiade facilities in such a way that everyone could attend them during weekends. This should make the sports capital of the country the healthiest.

Ilsur Metshin at the opening ceremony of the I Kazan City Olympics noted that it was important for him to involve as many Kazan citizens in sport as possible, and he was ready  to show how it was great to be a sports person by  his personal example.

"The idea to revive the old tradition of the Olympics among employees of municipal services will help us to reaffirm the status of the sports city, not only in Russia but also abroad. The participation of Kazan citizens in this project is very important for us because we fight for a healthy generation. Moreover we show by our example that regular athletics will become a daily rule. I really dream about the day when all of our sports facilities will be full of citizens involved in sports. Number of such Kazan citizens should grow day by day", the Mayor of Kazan said.

We recall that employees of 10 sectors of municipal services will take part in the City Olympics: education, medicine, law enforcement bodies, utilities, industry, financial sector, transport and communications, municipal and state institutions, etc. The Olympics will take place in six sports: skiing , athletics and swimming, volleyball, indoor soccer, and "Merry starts. Also in the program there is a sport with an exotic name for us so far: a cross-fit is a kind of gymnastics giving a general therapeutic effect. Kazan citizens have already known about the new sport today, visited Ak Bars Sports Hall.

Sports and Athletics competitions will be conducted at three stages. At the first stage the strongest athletes will be revealed within the enterprises of various sectors of municipal services. At the second stage there will be a competition between the teams of sectoral institutions; and the third stage, where the winners of the first and the second stages will join, will reveal the most athletic sector of the city.
