Ilsur Metshin met with the Ambassador of Nigeria
Today was held an official meeting of the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Russia Mai Shelpidi.
Official relations between Nigeria and the USSR were established in 1960, in 1963 was open the Nigerian Embassy in Moscow. Since then relations between our two countries strengthened from year to year. Currently Russia and Nigeria are working closely in energy, weapons supplies. In Russian universities study more than 700 Nigerian students, 11 of them - in Kazan. And as noted Mr. Shelpidi, in Nigeria the quality of Russian education is appreciated and they are interested in that the number of students to grow. This as well as finding new promising areas for cooperation was discussed during a visit to Nigeria in 2009 of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. This visit of Mr. Shelpidi to Tatarstan is also associated with the development of mutually beneficial cooperation with Nigeria with one of the most economically developed regions of Russia.
In his turn Ilsur Metshin also expressed interest in that students from Nigeria to choose for education Kazan universities. Moreover, with the obtaining of Kazan University the status of federal opportunities of Tatarstan high school should go to a new, higher level.
Forthcoming Universiade 2013 also was not left without attention. Nigerian athletes are firmly intend to take to take part in the maximum possible numbers of sports. Although, as noted by Mr. Shelpidi, the greatest numbers of wins Nigeria comes in soccer competitions. Nigeria national team participates in the World Cup in 2010, where will play the first match with the national team of Argentina.
