I.Metshin: «The total number of blockages is decreasing, but up to 60 emergency cases per day is still too much»

In Kazan, the response time to eliminate sewer blockages has been reduced due to the purchasing of 12 special vehicles. Since the beginning of 2026, specialists have eliminated 9,901 blockages. Rustam Abdulkhakov, Director General of the Municipal Unitary Enterprise Vodokanal, told about this during his report. 

This year, 1,500 tons of garbage were removed from the sewage system. During the cleaning of the collectors, the employees of the Vodokanal find a variety of different objects, without exaggeration, we can open a real museum. We are shocked at what people flush down the toilet. Statistics show that the total number of blockages is gradually decreasing, but up to 60 emergency cases per day is still too much», – said the Mayor of the city Ilsur Metshin. 

This year, the enterprise has acquired 12 new cleaning vehicles. Previously, to perform such work, it was necessary to order three different types of equipment or rent vehicles. 

To prevent emergencies, the enterprise continuously conducts preventive cleaning of sewer networks. Since the beginning of the year, during the cleaning of collectors, specialists have extracted more than 1,500 tons of garbage. 

In addition, 520 accidents have occurred on water supply networks this year. «This year, the Vodokanal has eliminated 520 accidents. At the same time, most of them were eliminated without disconnection of water supply for residents. Kazan residents often do not even notice the enormous amount of work performed by the Vodokanal and our other network organizations that provide the city with water, heat and electricity. This is the main indicator of the quality of work. The same principle applies here as with a good referee on a football field: the more inconspicuous the work of public utilities, the better it is organized», – said the Mayor of Kazan.
