The Mayor of Kazan met two elephant cows at Kazan Airport. Five-year-old Sugar and four-year-old Luck will live in the Kazan Zoo.
“This is a gift from the President of Laos to the President of our country Vladimir Putin. We have a renovated zoo, and our Philemon needs a bride. Finally, there are two at once! They have beautiful names – Luck and Sugar. I would like to thank Alexander Shavliashvili, Director of the Kazan Tourism Development Committee, as well as the Kazan Zoo. Our colleagues from the Federal Ministries of Culture and Agriculture, as well as colleagues from the Lao People’s Democratic Republic have done a lot of organizational work to please all our residents,”- said Ilsur Metshin.
At the Zoo, Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin met with Laotian animal keepers. The Mayor interested about the travel conditions of animals. He also talked with the head of the Kazan Zoo's elephant nursery, Adel Ganibaev, who traveled to Laos and participated in organizing the transportation of animals.
The animals were transported from Laos to Russia in full compliance with IATA international regulations for the transportation of live goods. Before the transportation, the staff of the Kazan Zoo traveled to Laos to examine the animals and complete the necessary documents. Special containers were made for transportation.
Presently, Luck and Sugar are accommodated in the indoor enclosures of the Zoo. They will stay here for a mandatory adaptation period under the supervision Kazan specialists and Lao keepers.
