(KZN.RU, November 7). The monument to Rudolf Nuriev, a Soviet, English, and French ballet dancer and choreographer, has been opened today in the park near the Kazan Opera and Ballet Theater named after M. Jalil. Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the RT, Mintimer Shaimiev, the State Counselor of the RT, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, Zurab Tsereteli, the author of the sculpture, and others participated in the solemn event.
“We have the Nurievsky festival, and now there is a monument to the “flying Tatar” installed near the opera theater. All our ideas are realized in this sculpture”, said R. Minnikhanov.
The President of the RT emphasized the importance of opening a monument to the ballet dancer in the capital of the republic. “Rudolf Nuriev is an international great figure. Such people are born once in a hundred years”, he said.
Zurab Tsereteli, presenting his work to the Kazan citizens, shared that its creation brought him joy. “This is my heart cry. I adore this unique city, I've been here many times. You have a good story, and you need to raise it in the language of art”, said the sculptor.
Since 1993, Kazan hosts the festival of classical ballet named after Rudolf Nuriev, reports the press service of the President of the RT. In addition, one of the Kazan streets in the residential area “Kottedzhny Poselok “Primavera” of the Privolzhsky district of the city has the name of the famous artist of the dance.
