(KZN.RU, August 16, by Renat Shirmanov) Following the 2011World Summer Univesriade in Shenzhene, the organizers of the Games in Kazan will conduct a detailed analysis of what they saw in China. The capital of Tatarstan cannot lower the bar set by the opening ceremony of the 2011Universiade. This was stated today by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin during an Executive Committee meeting.
The 2011World Summer Universiade started August 12 in the Chinese city of Shenzhen. The opening ceremony was attended by a delegation of Tatarstan headed by the President of the Republic Rustam Minnikhanov.
According to the mayor, the Shenzhen Games organizers paid much attention to the opening ceremony. A new stadium was built especially for the purpose on the ocean front, where the colorful two-hour show was held. "An opening ceremony makes up 75 per cent of the Universiade, since the whole world is watching. China once again impressed everyone present with its skills. I’d like to note that we have all necessary conditions for organizing our opening ceremony at least as well," said the Mayor of Kazan.
An expanded Tatarstan delegation will travel to Shenzhen August 23. On this day, the closing ceremony of the 2011Summer Universiade will be held, during which the Mayor of Shenzhen will transfer the FISU flag to Ilsur Metshin. "This moment will mark the start of the Universiade in Kazan," summed up the mayor.
It will be recalled that the 2011Summer Universiade will be attended by 12,024 athletes from 148 countries. Russia will be represented by 672 athletes, including 476 athletes competing in all 24 events. Thirty-eight Tatarstan athletes will march under the banner of Russia’s team, twenty-eight of them representing Kazan.
Over the past two days, 30 sets of medals have been contested out of the total of 306. Tatarstan’s team has already won its first gold. The highest award has been won by Kazan fencer Camilla Gafurzyanova. She represents the Junior Olympic Reserve School, where she is coached by Ildar Shaimardanov. Camilla is a Master of Sports of International Class, who has been fencing since 2000.
