Now I began
to read the novel "Children of Lend-Lease" by V.Aksenov. It is
interesting to see the old Kazan with author’s eyes.
«Lend-leasing,
or Children of lend-lease" is the last, unfinished novel by Vasily
Aksenov. The publication has lots of differences with the book. After finishing a new thing,
Vasily Pavlovich used to send it to his close friends, who shared their impressions.
Following this tradition, the texts that go after the novel «Lend-leasing, or
Children of lend-lease" are the response from Aksenov’s friends. Among them - Anatoly Naiman, Evgeny Popov, Alexander
Kabakov, Svetlana Vasileva - they all share their impressions about the novel.
We were
incredibly lucky that Vasily Pavlovich had almost finished this work, but to complete
this novel now is, according to the writer Alexander Kabakov’s words, as
unnecessary and ridiculous as to attach the hands of Venus de Milo. An
interesting comparison, isn’t it?
