(KZN.RU, September 6, by Renat Shirmanov and Alisa Rozanova) Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin participated in the extraordinary meeting of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs of United Cities and Local Governments. The meeting of the heads of municipalities of the world's largest cities was held in Istanbul (Turkey).
The main topic on the agenda was preparation for the Fourth UCLG World Congress, to be held in the Moroccan city of Rabat from October1 to 4.
Before starting the discussion, the Committee members congratulated Ilsur Metshin on the great success of the 2013 Universiade. The colleagues called the 27th World Summer Student Games in Kazan a great achievement and shared their impressions of the sports events and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies they watched on television.
During the discussion of the main issues, the Mayor of Kazan, on behalf of of the Eurasian branch, supported the candidacy of the current UCLG President Kadir Topbas.
The members of the Committee approved the nomination of co-presidents of the world organization, including Ilsur Metshin, the former Prime Minister of France, Bordeaux Mayor Alain Juppe and Guangzhou Mayor Wan Qingliang.
The participants also discussed the changes in the charter of the organization and the UCLG membership, as well as the upcoming events in Rabat.
