Kazan week’s bike rentals break European record
(KZN.RU, July 8, by Taisiya Basharkina) The Kazan new system of public bike rentals “Veli'K” in its first week of existence has demonstrated high demand among residents and visitors alike. As Deputy Mayor Oscar Prokopyev said at today’s Executive Committee staff meeting, since the official launch of the system, there have been 500 rentals daily. "In European cities with the same number of bicycle parking lots, it takes at least six weeks to achieve this high figure," he said.
It will be recalled that the bicycle rental system was launched a week ago, on July 1. To date, the city has seven automatic rentals with 100 bikes. Five more rentals are scheduled to open following the Universiade. City Mayor Ilsur Metshin noted that after the beautification of the Kazanka waterfront from the Circus to the National Cultural Center has been completed, opening new bicycle rentals along the route should be considered.
