(KZN.RU, November 19, by Taisiya Basharkina) A Bavarian boy, Felix Finkbeiner, who won worldwide fame for his tree planting campaign, is to visit Kazan at the invitation of Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin at the end of this week. This was announced at Kazan City Hall Business Monday.
When Felix was nine years old, he urged classmates to plant one million trees. Other schools began to join in, and the campaign spread all over Germany. Eventually, the movement became worldwide. Today, hundreds of countries are involved, and billions of trees have been planted. The next goal is to plant a trillion seedlings.
I.Metshin said that the young environmentalist will visit the capital of Tatarstan this week and share his experience with Kazan students. “It is an opportunity to impress on our students the fact that one man can win a battle,” said the mayor. According to him, the motto of the movement “Stop talking. Start planting!” is in tune with the objectives of the “Green Record” project, which is in full swing in Kazan.
