(KZN.RU, November 1, by Taisiya Basharkina) Exterior restoration of 105 buildings which determine the appearance of Kazan's historical center has been completed. This was announced by Deputy Chief Executive Ruslan Shakirov at a meeting of the Historical Center Restoration Board.
The Board, chaired by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, summed up today the first year of restoration of monuments and cultural heritage objects. It will be recalled that the Board began its work in the fall of 2011.
According to Ruslan Shakirov, there are currently 304 objects to be restored in the historical center, 89 of which are cultural heritage monuments. Rehabilitation and construction has been completed at 105 sites and is in progress at 182 sites.
The most complex and costly restoration has been completed at 13 buildings (including the "Milliyat" printing house and the Rakhmankulov house) and is continuing at 72. Among the key buildings to be restored are Aleksandrovsky Passage, the Fuchs House and hotel "Kazan".
"What has been missing for decades cannot be recovered in a single summer. Today, 304 objects are under restoration, and this is no mean achievement. The Universiade has certainly been a stimulus in the reconstruction of the historical city center, but this is just the beginning; these are only the first 300 objects. We still have a lot to do,” summed up the mayor.
