(KZN.RU, November 1, by Alisa Rozanova) After all the planned parking lots have been opened, the center of Kazan will approach European cities in the number of parking spaces. These statistics were presented at the opening of a multi-storey car park for 275 vehicles in Tukai square at the “Kol'tso” shopping center. Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin was present at the ceremony.
As recalled by the first deputy head of the Executive Committee for Economy, Transport, Land and Property Rustam Nigmatullin, seven more parking lots with about 3,000 spaces will be opened in the city center by the year's end.
The newly-opened car park will add 275 parking spaces to the 60 spaces in front of the shopping center, the three-storey underground car park for 375 vehicles and the two-storey car park for 50 vehicles at “Grand Hotel Kazan”. These 760 parking spaces will free some four kilometers of roadside from parked cars and improve the congestion in the city center.
"Our primary goal is to make drivers park at pay parking lots. This is common in all metropolises and may take time to implement in our case. We are often told: “Give us an alternative to roadside parking”. With the new car park at the “Kol'tso” shopping center, it will no longer be possible to say that,” concluded the mayor.
