(KZN.RU, June 7, by Taisiya Basharkina) Three residents of the capital of Tatarstan have been awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Kazan. City Hall deputies, during its 14th session, decided to award this title to Chairman of the Board of the Angela Vavilova Public Charitable Fund Vladimir Vavilov, to Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Staro-Tatarskaya Sloboda Seniors Nuraniya Biktemirova and to Honored Coach of the RSFSR and the USSR Vladimir Zhitlov.
Mayor Ilsur Metshin emphasized that the candidates were worthy of the award. "They have been working for the good of our city for many years; they have done a lot and continue contributing to its prosperity and development."
In March 2003, Vladimir Vavilov created a foundation and named it in honor of his daughter, who died of leukemia at age five. He was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen for outstanding contributions to the foundation of a charity.
Nuraniya Biktemirova made a significant contribution to the preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of Kazan and of the traditions and life style of Staro-Tatarskaya Sloboda.
Tatarstan’s most decorated coach Vladimir Zhitlov received the award for his outstanding achievements in the promotion of sports and training of brilliant athletes.
The ceremonial presentation of diplomas, certificates and Honorary Citizen of Kazan badges is traditionally held on the City Day – August 30.
