(KZN.RU, August 23, by Renat Shirmanov) A ceremonial transfer of the FISU (International University Sports Federation) flag from China to Russia will be held today in Shenzhen. Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin will receive the flag from the hands of the Mayor of Shenzhen. The procedure will take place during the closing ceremony of the 2011World Summer Student Games.
"This moment will mark the start of the Universiade in Kazan," stressed the importance of the event Ilsur Metshin before his departure to China.
The transfer of the flag will take about five minutes. Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Organizing Committee of the 2013 Universiade in Kazan Igor Shuvalov will make a
statement from the Russian side.
Over 120 Russian performers will participate in the FISU flag handover ceremony. They will present a 10-minute show, which will demonstrate our national character. Aida Garifullina will sing the final song about Kazan, written by Walter Afanasieff, a two-time Grammy Award winner.
The closing ceremony of the Shenzhen Games and the Universiade flag transfer to Kazan will be broadcast in more than 150 countries. Visitors to our website will be able to watch the colorful show live. The ceremony is scheduled to start at 16:00 Moscow time.
The FISU flag is due to arrive in Kazan August 24, and on August 30, it will go on a grand relay tour of Russia’s major student centers, accompanied by representatives of the NPO "Executive management" Kazan 2013", activists, students and Tatarstan's best artistic teams.
