Ilsur Metshin: "This is the case when it is better to be safe"

(KZN.RU, October 17, Alsu Safina). Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, urged to keep under control the issue of African swine fever at the today's Business Monday in the Executive Committee of the city. “It is better to be safe and to strengthen measures to prevent the disease”, he said.

Timur Galeev, the head of the “State Veterinary Association of Kazan”, said about the risk of importation of products, infected with African swine fever. One of these cases occurred in the Orenburg region. On September 28th a case of African swine fever was detected in Nurlatsky region. “This is a direct threat to the city in connection with the active movement of controlled goods between Kazan and this area”, said Timur Galeev.

The special monitoring during urban autumn agricultural fairs, including carrying out disinfection of vehicles, is among the measures, which are taken by experts of the city veterinary service. In addition, the selection of samples of animal products to avoid the presence of disease agents is conducted in retail chains and markets; the presence of markers of the study on African swine fever in veterinary accompanying documents is controlled. “66 samples were selected for the period from August to September, the result on the African swine fever were negative by 100%”, saif Timur Galeev. The causative agent of African swine fever in Kazan has been revealed the last time in 2012.

The veterinary post “Malinovka” works at the entrance to the city to prevent the import of poor quality products and the importation of infectious diseases, where the hour monitoring of transport, engaged in moving products of animal and vegetable origin, is carried out.

“If this happened in the Orenburg region, the heads of districts, representatives of trade and public catering - everyone needs to be fully prepared”, commented the Mayor and instructed the heads of the districts together with the State Veterinary Association to develop a set of measures for the trade and public catering sphere, to conduct the educational conversations. “It is essential that every manager, entrepreneur, who buys products, understand the level of responsibility”, said the Mayor.

Timur Galeev said that the State Veterinary Association work on development and implementation programs for the prevention and elimination of contagious animal diseases in Kazan was awarded with this prize. “This is the result of great teamwork of staff. However safety should be a top result”, summed up Ilsur Metshin.

He noted the work the State Veterinary Association and prevention of extremely dangerous and contagious animal diseases in the city. “The big city is not only a lot of people, but also a huge number of animals, including wild ones. They cannot be invited to the medical examination”, said Ilsur Metshin, stressing the importance of veterinarians work.
