(KZN.RU, June 5). An official delegation of the Republic of Tatarstan met with the FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu and the Head of the FINA Marketing Department Peter Hall at the headquarters of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) in Lausanne (Switzerland)
Tatarstan was represented by President Rustam Minnikhanov and Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin.
The parties discussed the bid campaign for the Aquatics World Championships in 2015/2017. The issues addressed related to preparations for the final presentation, which will be held July 15 in Shanghai (China).
Also discussed at the meeting were the preparations for the forthcoming FINA delegation inspection visit to Russia. The delegation is expected in Moscow June 14, where they will meet with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. A busy schedule awaits the FINA representatives in Kazan June 15-16.
“Our bid is strong enough, but we have serious competition. We should focus on those details which will highlight Kazan’s advantages in the fight for the right to host the World Aquatics Championship. Our goal is to demonstrate our strengths,” said Ilsur Metshin.
Kazan's major rivals are Guangzhou, China; Hong Kong, Special Administrative Region of China; Guadalajara, Mexico, and Montreal, Canada (Canada has applied only for the 2015 Championship).
