Il’sur Metshin visited the laboratory of young designers.
(KZN.RU, May 27, by Taisiya Basharkina). Four of Kazan’s students, who came in second place at the microsatellite launch open championship in Norway, held by the European Space Agency, are now preparing to participate in the European competitions in France. The Mayor of Kazan Il’sur Metshin met with members of the team "Gagarin" to congratulate the young designers on their victory and give them support in anticipation of new contests.
The team "Gagarin" - four students from Kazan: Yuri Klochko, Anton Malyshev, Ilya Tchigarev and Michael Bush - under the guidance of professors and students of Kazan State Technological University, ranked second at the microsatellite launch championship «CanSat», which took place from May 9th to 13th at the Andoya Rocket Range in Norway’s Lofoten Islands under the auspices of the Norwegian Center for Space Education NAROM. The boys were second only to the hosts - the Norwegians.
“The Gagarin Boys” built a mini-satellite, whose payload could fit in a tin can.
The team captain, tenth-grader Michael Bush, who presented the project in Norway in English, said that although the landing of the Kazan “can”, which bore Gagarin’s picture, was not entirely successful, it succeeded in transmitting data on temperature, pressure, altitude, aerosol concentration, acceleration and radiation.
The young engineers showed the Mayor their research laboratory «Radiotech» and demonstrated the equipment they purchased with grant money from the Vladimir Potanin Fund.
In the future, the young engineers will defend their honor at the European Microsatellite Launch Championship in France, which will be held in August this year. As noted by the youths, to adequately represent the team at the forthcoming championship, they need to buy equipment, pay for the travel and training. The team intends to improve the existing equipment and test all satellite components under extreme conditions. "We have always paid special attention and given support to gifted children, and we’ll do all we can to make sure that you go to the European Championship well prepared and technically equipped", promised the city head.
