Olympic champion Valentina Nikonova became an honorary citizen of Kazan

Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin nominated the candidature of Valentina Nikonova for the title to pay tribute to the glorified athlete and coach. During the years of her sports career, she was recognized as the best fencer of the world, has become a 4-time World Champion, 6 times champion of the USSR, the Russian Federation, 5-time winner and three-times silver medalist of the European Cup, the Olympic champion. She has many awards.

In 1987, having completed a career, Valentina was engaged in teaching and research activities, combining it with coaching in her native sport school №3, passing the invaluable experience and skills to young fencers. Today Valentina leads public activities of agitation and propaganda of a healthy lifestyle along with scientific and pedagogical work.
