(Kazan, KZN.RU, June 5, by Albert Murtazin) First participants of the 16th World FINA Championships in Kazan are expected to arrive in the Athletes' Village as early as July17. Mayor Ilsur Metshin familiarized himself with the progress of preparations for visitors' accommodation in the capital of Tatarstan.
According to the Village mayor, Farid Abdulganiev, during the World Cup, two-thirds of the Village rooms will accommodate the competitors; some 2,400 athletes and 1,800 accompanying persons are expected at the main championship and 5-6 thousand are expected to participate in the Masters Championships. Currently, the Athletes' Village is getting ready to welcome the guests: seasonal repairs are being conducted, the premises are being redecorated, the staff is being trained and the facilities are being tested to assess the overall level of preparedness of the entire system.
Ilsur Metshin stressed that it is important to respond to the recommendations and suggestions of each delegation. The head of the city noted that during the Universiade guests of the capital of Tatarstan often noted the friendliness and courtesy of the staff and residents. "Hospitality is our forte, and it should be used to full advantage," said the mayor.
The mayor of Kazan visited one of the residential buildings in the Village and examined the conditions in which the competitors will live. The mayor also visited the Village grounds where improvement is under way and discussed with colleagues the appearance of small architectural forms to be installed. He also emphasized that although the city has a lot of experience in holding international events, it is necessary to treat each area of preparation with utmost care, meticulously supervising the work at each stage.
