(Kazan, KZN.RU, February 2, by Adel Galiev). Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin met today with a delegation of Tabriz – a city in the East Azerbaijan Province of the Islamic Republic of Iran. During the meeting, which was held in Kazan City Hall, the officials discussed the prospects of cooperation between the two sister cities and exchange of experience in improving municipal services.
The official delegation of Tabriz, which arrived in the capital of Tatarstan for the Culture Week, is headed by Mayor Sadegh Najafi Khazarlou. He was accompanied at the meeting by the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kazan Rasul Baghernejad Shayan and members of the Islamic Council of Tabriz.
Ilsur Metshin welcomed the delegation and noted that since the signing of the agreement on cooperation between the sister cities, the relationship between the capital of Tatarstan and Tabriz has been growing stronger and continuing to develop at all levels.
The mayor reminded that Kazan – one of the largest cities in Russia – boasts not only of the status of a "sports capital", but also of achievements in various areas: economy, education, science and culture.
Sadegh Najafi thanked Ilsur Metshin for the warm welcome and his contribution to the strengthening of cooperation between the cities. The Tabriz mayor expressed confidence that the exchange of experience between the parties will lead to positive results. According to him, there are many areas in which cooperation could be strengthened.
The two sides exchanged gifts, and Sadegh Najafi invited Ilsur Metshin to visit Tabriz so that the head of Kazan could learn more about the city's culture and heritage.
