Vladimir Alekno becomes Kazan’s honorary citizen
(KZN.RU, August 23, by Renat Shirmanov) Head coach of Russia’s national volleyball team and Kazan’s Zenith, Vladimir Alekno, became an honorary citizen of Kazan. The decision to award him the title was unanimously taken by the deputies at the extraordinary session of the 16th Kazan City Duma.
Vladimir Alekno was honored for his outstanding contribution to the development of sport, to the glory of Kazan and to the education of talented athletes.
“Vladimir Alekno is a unique athlete and coach. Under his leadership, Zenit has repeatedly won national championships and international tournaments. In 2010, after the victories that glorified Kazan, the volleyball club was included in the city Book of Honor. At the London Olympics, the Russian volleyball players for the first time since 1980 won a brilliant victory. We feel a sincere sense of pride about the fact that the coach of the national team has lived and worked in Kazan,” said Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.
