The Mayor of the capital of the republic of Tatarstan Ilsur Metshin visited the Osnovy scientific and educational center at the Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering (KSUAE). The center is one of the best in the country, where students test models of foundations, as well as study building construction systems and technologies at two sites. The head of the city got acquainted with the educational sites and talked with teachers and students whose developments and projects are being implemented in Kazan and the republic. The rector of the University Rashit Nizamov reported about the work of the center.
The Osnovy Center was opened at the renovated basements of the University and consists of two sites. Geotechnics site has an area of 600 sq.m. with a hall for testing models of foundations and laboratories for the preparation and mechanics of soils. By using modern devices and equipment, it is possible to solve problems related to the operation of the foundation in difficult geotechnical conditions. This site will be used for training students and retraining of specialists.
Assistant of the Department of Foundations, Structural Dynamics and Engineering Geology Niyaz Aysin told the Mayor about tests of various types of soil (loamy, clay, sandy, etc.). “With the help of a press, we set the load and in online mode, while sensors allow to see how the surface is deformed,”- explained N. Aysin. With the help of technology, it is possible to simulate the most complex geotechnical situation and see how the soil will modify under plate pressure. This is necessary when designing for solving various tasks at the existing buildings and facilities.
KSUAE has been dealing with such issues for a long time. Among the implemented projects are soil research for the possibility of building the Ak Bars Arena stadium, engineering and technical inspection of the Kekin House, Alexander Passage and Marjani Mosque. KSUAE’s team designed the enclosing structure of the excavation for the Kazan Palace hotel annex, a retaining wall for the Crystal residential complex and the fence of the excavation and its retaining system for the Aron residential complex.
The second site of the Osnovy Center is designed for studying the main stages of the construction of buildings. It has an area of 400 sq.m, with laboratories to study heat, hydro and sound insulation systems, winter concreting technology, facade structures and formwork systems. “For teaching students, a program based on virtual reality is also used. With the help of it, students see the construction site, where they study the formwork system of building construction from the inside,"”- said Ruslan Ibragimov, head of the Department of Construction Production Technology.
On a 1:20 scale training model of a construction site, students can learn the basic principles of crane control.
In the same room, students will prepare to construction championships.
Ilsur Metshin highly appreciated the conditions and equipment created in the center. “Seeing the technology is no less important than listening to a lecture,”- the Mayor noted.
Today, more than 5 thousand students and postgraduates study at the KSUAE, which occupies a leading position among other Russian universities. They are engaged in project development and participate in grant competitions. Alina Safina, a fourth year student, is engaged in printing small architectural forms made of concrete. She told the Mayor that last year she won a grant for the development of building materials with increased stability. Another student of the university, Regina Anvarova, took part in the creation of a landscaping project under the Our Yard program in 2022. The team, which included Regina, developed a renovation project for territory of apartment buildings on Garifyanov Street and Pobedy Avenue.
In 2022, the university team entered the top five architectural schools in the world and was represented at the Lisbon Architecture Triennial. At the annual award on hospitality Radical Innovation in the USA, 4th year students Ksenia Krepkogorskaya and Danil Nazarov took the prize. They suggested using the empty roofs of shopping malls for campsites with cinemas and swimming pools.
“I am very impressed. I see that a leap forward has been made in recent years. I am glad that you continue the best traditions of the Kazan architectural and construction school, but you do not stand still and show a large number of victories,”- the Mayor said.
