The athletes has
begun training process at the new ski and biathlon complex in the village of
Mirny in the Privolzhsky district of Kazan. This is the first world-class ski
and biathlon venue in the city, where athletes of the Tatarstan and Russian national
teams will be able to train. In addition to professional skiers and biathletes,
the winter sports fans will be able to train here. The new sports venue will
operate year-round. The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin has inspected the work of
the complex today, and then held a meeting on the development of sports to
discuss the implementation of sports programs and the reorganization of sports
schools.
The complex comprises
skiing trails, a shooting range, stands and wax cabins. One of its features is
the increased number of shooting lanes – 40 instead of the standard 30, which
allows more athletes to enter the track. The Mayor inspected a ski rental
point, a storage room for sports riffles for biathlon and a shooting range.
As the chair of
the Sports Committee Albert Salikhov noted, all conditions have been created at
the new sports complex for conducting training camps and competitions. Skiers
have been training here since winter, and now biathletes have started training.
“This is a
unique venue. Due to the variability of the skiing tracks, we can configure the
distance of any complexity, which allows athletes of any level to train,”-
Albert Salikhov told the Mayor. For example, in summer, at the initial stage of
training, athletes can practice on a 1.15 km long track, and in winter run
distances of 1.8 and 1.95 km. For professional training, ski and biathlon
trails can be configured with a length from 800 meters to 5 km.
In winter,
anyone can practice on the track by renting skis. “I am sure winter sports fans
will appreciate the complex,”- Ilsur Metshin said.
The skiing trace
has sections with climbs and descents, as well as gentle ones, which is
especially important for those who are just learning the basics of skiing, A.
Salikhov noted.
The complex is
equipped with an artificial snowmaking and lighting system. “Thanks to this,
the venue can operate in any weather, as well as at night,”- said the chair of
the Sports Committee.
“There are just a few such world-class venues
in Russia. All conditions are created here for effective training of skiers and
biathletes with descents, climbs and even slopes. A large number of shooting lanes.
The complex is equipped with everything necessary, which allows not only
Russian, but also foreign athletes to train here,”- Ilsur Metshin appreciated
the new sports venue.
For reference,
the decision to build a modern ski and biathlon complex was made in 2019 at a
meeting with Tatarstan Republic Rustam Minnikhanov, who regularly inspected the
progress of construction work. The construction of the sports venue was carried
out in several stages.
