The President of the RT visited the updated Gallery of Modern Art in Kazan

(KZN.RU, December 7). Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the RT, visited the contemporary art gallery in Kazan today. The three-story building at the intersection of streets Karl Marks and Mushtari is open after a large-scale reconstruction.

Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, Irada Ayupova, the minister of Culture of the RT, Olesya Baltusova, an assistant to the President of the RT and others also took part in the inspection.

Earlier, the building included the Exhibition Hall of the Union of Artists of the RT. Now it is the Gallery of Modern Art of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the RT.

The customer of the repair works was the Glavinveststroy RT, the general contractor was the company OOO “Restavrator”. Design and estimate documentation was developed by the institute “Tatinvestgrazhdanproekt”. The repair work began in 2017. Repair costs amounted to 343 million rubles from the start of construction.

The roof and facade were repaired in the building, a freight elevator was installed, an entrance and finishing works were arranged, windows were replaced, specialized furniture and equipment were purchased, and electric lighting and landscaping were completed.

At present, the gallery space with a two-light hall offers unique exhibition opportunities, including the possibility of exhibiting large-format works. The gallery will also be able to host multimedia exhibitions.

Now, the visitors have three floors, six exhibition spaces, a lecture hall, a children's art playground, and multimedia. In total, there are more than one and a half thousand square meters, reports the press service of the President of the RT.

“We remember what this object was like before reconstruction”, said Rustam Minnikhanov today. “Now it is a modern facility capable of performing important tasks. I want to thank everyone, not only those who restored the building, but also those who worked on these new and interesting areas that will attract residents of the republic and guests of the city to the Gallery of Modern Art. I am sure that we will be proud of this gallery”.

According to Rustam Minnikhanov, today the updated Gallery of Modern Art has many excellent opportunities. “Good luck in your creativity!” said Rustam Minnikhanov.

Rustam Minnikhanov presented the Gratitude of the President of the RT to the staff of the State Budgetary Institution of Culture “The State Museum of Fine Arts of the RT” for a great contribution to the development of the museum, preservation of the cultural and artistic heritage of the RT.

The building at Karl Marks Street, №57 in Kazan was built in 1979 in the aesthetics of non-rutalism as the Exhibition Hall of the Union of Artists of the TASSR. For this project, the architect G. Bakulin received the title of laureate of the G. Tukay State Prize of the RT in 1981. The author of the sculpture at the entrance is R. Kharitonov. The exhibition hall was opened in 1980 with a large-scale regional exhibition “Big Volga”.

In 2009, the building was transferred to the State Museum of Fine Arts of the RT, and it was modernized in 2017-2018.
