(KZN.RU, October 31, by Renat Shirmanov). There is an increased awareness of Kazan and Tatarstan thanks to the FISU (International University Sports Federation) flag relay tour and to the presentation of the 2013Universiade in various cities. Next spring or summer, Kazan Games volunteers may go on a presentation tour of European cities. This proposal was made today at a Business Monday by Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin.
Recall that on August 23, during the closing ceremony of the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, the FISU flag was transferred to the mayor of Kazan. On August 30, activists of Tatarstan’s Students League and of the Academy of Creative Youth, as well as the best artistic groups went on a tour of the regions of the Volga Federal District by a special train "Universiade in your city!".
"For three weeks, the main symbol of the international university sports was touring 13 cities. On September 25, the presentation of the 2013 Universiade was held in Moscow,
on September 28 -- in St. Petersburg. According to tentative estimates, more than 300 thousand people either participated in or attended the Universiade flag relay events,” said deputy director of the "Kazan-2013"executive management and head of the festive program management Igor Sivov.
Owing to the flag relay, the Council of Rectors of St. Petersburg and of Russia’s 30 largest universities have joined Universiade partnership. They are ready to act as regional training centers for the 2013World Summer Universiade to be held in Kazan.
"We are entering the home stretch in preparation for the Universiade and must use our potential to the utmost. The whole of Russia and beyond should get to know Kazan and Tatarstan. For this purpose, next spring or summer, we should make a presentation tour of Europe together with FISU representatives,” summed up Ilsur Metshin.
