(KZN.RU, September 2, by Irina Smirnova) Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin met with a delegation from the State of New York (USA) in the White Room of Kazan City Hall.
The official program of the delegation’s 5-day visit to Tatarstan began on August 30. The visitors took part in the celebrations of the Day of the Republic and of the City and attended the first open-air opera festival "Kazan Autumn." The U.S. colleagues met with Chairman of State Council Farid Mukhametshin, President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, visited Kazan (Volga) Federal University, the IT-park, the Idea technopark and saw the sights of the capital of Tatarstan.
Among the participants on the New York State side are: Alec Brook-Krasny, a New York State Assembly member and Task Force on New Americans Chair; Hugh T. Farley, Chairman of Majority Program Development and Vice-Chair of the Senate Committee on Banks; Amy Paulin, a New York State Assemblywoman and Chair of the Children and Family Committee; Suzi Oppenheimer, a State Senator and Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Education.
The Republic of Tatarstan and Kazan are represented by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, Deputy Mayor Oscar Prokopiev, First Deputy Head of the Kazan Executive Committee Rustam Nigmatullin, Tatarstan State Council Chairman of the Board on Economy, Investments and Business Marat Galeev, City Duma Secretary Lyudmila Andreeva, Mayor of the Universiade Village Farid Abdulganiev and City Duma deputies.
The main goal of the visit is to promote business cooperation between Tatarstan and the State of New York, to develop tourism, to facilitate student and faculty exchange, to foster cooperation in the field of culture, to share experience in lawmaking, and to promote further inter-parliamentary cooperation.
