Issues of improving road safety in the republic were discussed in Kazan

(KZN.RU, December 14). The joint meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of the RT and the board of the Interior Ministry of the RT on the issues of improving the safety of road traffic in the republic, reducing the number of accidents and reducing the severity of their consequences, took place at the House of the RT Government.

The meeting was chaired by Ildar Khalikov, the Prime Minister of Tatarstan, in the mode of video conferencing to connect all the municipalities. Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of Tatarstan, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, Shamil Gafarov, the deputy Prime Minister of the RT and the chief of Cabinet of Ministers Office of the RT, Asgat Safarov, the head of the President’s Office, members of the Government of Tatrstan and others took part in the meeting.

Artem Hohorin, the Minister of the Interior of the RT, delivered the main report. He said that the increase of road accidents number was recorded in the republic for the first time in recent years. The negative trend observed in every third municipality. The death toll rose in 17 municipalities, some by more than 2 times.

According to Artem Hohorin, assaults on pedestrians are frequent this year in the republic: 577 cases, which killed 19 people. Today, almost 6500 pedestrian crossings act in the country, a third of which does not comply with rules.

According to the minister, ordering types of passenger transport demand serious attention. “These entrepreneurs have no specific landing sites and disembarkation of passengers, so they do not need to enter into a contract with the bus station, they do not require licensing. As a result, the rights of citizens to ensure transport safety is violated, the rights of legal drivers to obtain equal conditions for doing business are infringed”, said Artem Hohorin.

The President said that ordinary citizens should be involved in the fight against violators of traffic rules. So, 86 000 violations were reported through the application “Public Inspector” in 2016. Rustam Minnikhanov proposed to develop a form of promotion to the most active users of the system, reports the press-service of the President of the RT.

The President noted that the government of the RF is prepared to amend the rules of the road, according to which drivers will be fined by 5000 rubles for dangerous driving. Rustam Minnikhanov urged the deputies of the Tatarstan State Council to go on with the initiative to tighten penalties for dangerous driving. “The punishment for the drivers for dangerous driving should be more severe. There is no other way to deal with aggressive drivers”, he concluded.

Also, R. Minnikhanov instructed to deal with illegal carriers. “They are easy to identify: they go on the most profitable routes. Thus they discourage customers from legal carriers. Capture and punish”, said the head of Tatarstan.
