(KZN.RU, May 11th, by Renat Shirmanov.) A delegation from the Republic of Tatarstan has studied town-planning in Baku, the scientific, technological and industrial center of Azerbaijan.
The delegation was on a working visit to Baku May 6th-7th. It included the Mayor of Kazan Il’sur Metshin, the Minister of Civil Engineering, Architecture, Housing and Public Utilities of Tatarstan Irek Faizullin, the Deputy Head for Urban Planning of the Executive Committee of Kazan Azat Nigmatzyanov, the Deputy Mayor of Kazan Ivan Kuznetsov, the chief architect of the capital of Tatarstan Tatyana Prokopyeva and other officials.
The visit to the capital of Azerbaijan by the delegation from Tatarstan was not accidental. Today, large-scale construction of social, urban and other projects is under way in Kazan. The administration of Tatarstan and of its capital is constantly studying the experience of foreign countries, and, at present, Baku is a leader in urban development. The capital of Azerbaijan has been successful in building new roads, traffic intersections and public parks.
The mayors of Kazan and Baku had a meeting during the visit. Il’sur Metshin and Gadzhibala Abutalybov agreed to continue their cooperation. It should be noted that some Azerbaijan companies are already involved in building traffic intersections in Kazan.
The Mayor of Kazan and other members of the delegation also met the Chairman of the State Committee for Town-Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan Abbas Aleskerov. The visitors familiarized themselves with Baku’s development plan until 2030. They paid special attention to the planned construction sites of residential and hotel complexes, multilevel road intersections, new subway stations, underground and elevated pedestrian crossings and quays.
Baku is situated on the Caspian seacoast, and for a long time, various industrial enterprises have been located in the quay area. Currently the enterprises are being moved beyond the city boundaries, following which the quay is going to be improved. This project aroused great interest among the members of the delegation from Tatarstan.
At the end of the visit, the Mayor of Kazan Il’sur Metshin and other delegation members laid flowers at the tomb of the outstanding singer, People’s Artist of the USSR Muslim Magomayev.
