The Mayor of Kazan: «Work safety
is a crucial responsibility of any manager, which should be at the top of the
list of priorities»
Twenty-eight industrial accidents were
registered in the capital of Tatarstan this year
Since the beginning of this year, the Coordinating
Council for Work Safety of the Kazan Executive Committee has received 50 records
of accidents at various enterprises. Of these, 28 were determined to be
industrial accidents. This information was announced at the Business Monday
meeting by Ildar Shakirov, Deputy Head of the Kazan Executive Committee.
«Work safety is not an option, but a crucial
responsibility for any company manager. It should be at the top of the list of
priorities. While these figures may seem insignificant when compared to a city
with 1.3 million people, they represent a significant tragedy for each
individual family. Human error can occur anywhere, and it's important for
managers to take work safety seriously», – said Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Kazan.
Kazan Mayor noted the aspiration of the capital city of Tatarstan to
become a city of the best employers, emphasized that without solving issues
related to work safety, this goal will not be achieved. «Coordinating Council
must continue its work and ensure that the results are appropriate», – he said.
The Mayor also reminded that in the past century, any enterprise had
indicators for assessments by ministries based on their achievements in work
safetu.
According to Ildar Shakirov, the most workplace injury risks occur at
industrial enterprises (15 cases), trade and services (6 cases), construction
(4 cases), and transport (2 cases).
Kazan is a leader in housing construction in Tatarstan and the Volga
Federal District, therefore special attention has been paid to monitoring work
safety in the construction industry. The process is carried out in several
stages. At the first stage, checklists on work safety were sent to 55 major
developers and more than 220 contractors. According to the assessment results,
at the second stage, they visited 16 developers and contractors.
«The developers and contractors commented on the issues promptly,
stopping activities until the gross violations were eliminated. Overall, a work
safety management system was created in these organizations», – Ildar Shakirov
noted.
The Coordinating Council organized visits to production facilities where
accidents had occurred. At one plant, the management was advised to improve
lighting, and at another, it was necessary to provide additional documentation.
