(KZN.RU, November 20). Today, the monument to Shigabutdin Mardzhani, the
famous Tatar theologian and scientist, was opened on the embankment of the
Kaban Lake in Kazan. Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the RT, Mintimer
Shaimiev, the State Counselor of the RT, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan,
Kamil Samigullin, Mufti of the RT, and others participated in the ceremony.
Rustam Minnikhanov congratulated with holiday Mawlid al-Nabi al-Sharif, the
observance of the birthday of Islamic prophet Muhammad. "In this day we
open the monument to Shigabutdin Mardzhani, a great son of Tatar people, a
theologian and a philosopher. Due to his work he made a great contribution to
education of Tatar people. I want to thank all those who participated in realization
of this project", - the President emphasized.
Mintimer Shaimiev added that
Shigabutdin Mardzhani was the world's famous personality, his work would study
for a long time. "Shigabutdin Mardzhani is our pride, treasure of our
people. It is necessary to tell about him more, acquaint people with his
many-sided activity, and contribution to history. This is particularly relevant
to today's increase of tourist flow to Kazan", - he noted.
The installation of the
sculpture was held within the celebrating of the 200-anniversary of Shigabutdin
Mardzhani's birth. The monument is made of white marble on the project of Baki
Urmanche, a great Tatar sculptor. The theologian's statement "True and just path are above all else" is
engraved on the tombstones.
