(KZN.RU, September 22, by Ekaterina Andreeva). At its 7th session today, Kazan City Duma approved the establishment of a new municipal body - "The Iske Sheher - Old Town" prefecture. The task of the new body is to put the historic district of the city in order.
As the Chief of Staff of Kazan Executive Committee Denis Kalinkin noted, the need for a specialized body - " The Old Town" prefecture - has arisen in connection with the pressing need for conservation and development of the historic center of Kazan, the effective use and promotion of cultural heritage sites. The prefecture, according to D. Kalinkin, must take charge of the historical heritage sites and to participate in the planning of area development, zoning, maintenance and beautification.
Another key objective of the prefecture is to actively cooperate with individuals willing to invest in the restoration of historic buildings and help them with document processing and registration.
According to Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin, the head of the new body - the prefect - will be endowed with special powers and status equal to that of the head of district administration.
The Duma deputies approved the decision to create the new body.
