I. Metshin took part in the visit to the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit

(Kazan City KZN.RU, November 26). The President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov visited the object of the cultural heritage of republican significance - the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit - this morning. Together with him the church was visited by the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, Minister of Construction, Architecture, Housing and Communal Services of the Republic of Tatarstan Irek Faizullin and others.

The Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit was built in Kazan at the Sukonnaya settlement between 1731 and 1735 years. Before the revolution of 1917 the church had the most numerous parish in Kazan - up to 4 thousand people. The church was closed in 1931, adapted for the club. From 1950 on the second floor of the building a puppet theater was housed. Only in 2012 the church complex was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church - after the construction of the new building of the puppet theater in Kazan. With state support in the complex of the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit repair work was conducted, the bell tower was rebuilt.

The Metropolitan of Kazan and Tatarstan Feofan met Rustam Minnikhanov at the entrance to the church. He recalled the history and stages of reconstruction of the temple. The head of the republic visited the halls, the iconostasis, appreciated the quality of the repair work.

Metropolitan thanked the President of Tatarstan for attention to this object of cultural heritage. "Your words never diverge with deeds. Under your direct supervision the temple was rebuilt in its original beauty, - he stressed. – We will talk a lot about our relationship, but this temple is the vivid evidence of how today relationships of power with religious organizations are being built. There is no doubt that people, who will come here to pray, will always remember those who have helped in the restoration of the temple with gratitude".

In turn, Rustam Minnikhanov said that he is glad of the fact that another highlight has appeared in Kazan because of this historical object. "We came to the question of restoration of the church systematically - he recalled. - It involved a lot of people who helped, and I see that everything is done with soul".

"The main thing is that the object of cultural heritage is in demand - the head of the republic continued. - Kazan today is a city where history is preserved. It is the city attractive to tourists. And here the representatives of all nationalities and all faiths live in peace".
