Volleyball Center has been opened in Kazan

(KZN.RU, December 18, Renat Shirmanov). A new 25-th object of the Universiade-2013 has been opened in Kazan. The Saint-Petrsburg unique Volleyball Centre solemnly has opened the doors today. This is one of the largest specialized sports centers in Russia. Center Construction has been conducted from August 2009.

The First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, the President of Russian Student Sports Union Oleg Matytsin, the Chairman of the Technical Commission FISU Stavros Duvis and many others attended the festive event.

"It is not the first time this year when we gather on occasion of the putting into operation of another object of the Universiade in Kazan. Opening of such a wonderful volleyball Center is a gift to all citizens of Kazan and Tatarstan", Igor Shuvalov said.

It is worth noting that the gift presented to Kazan for the New Year is impressive. Volleyball Centre includes the main arena with a capacity of more than 4500 people and a small one with a capacity of 596 spectators. The total area of the arena is 13,670 square meters. About 790 million rubles from the federal budget has been spent for the construction of the main volleyball court of Tatarstan.

"Most facilities have been built but there are still difficult two and a half years. We all need to mobilize our forces and do everything to hold the Universiade. We should work together", the first Deputy Prime Minister said.

"Next year we will open all of the remaining items of the Universiade with the exception of the new stadium. The work is not limited to sports facilities construction; we are improving transport infrastructure. For the support of the federal government we want to express our deep gratitude”, Minnikhanov, the President of Tatarstan addressed the audience.

Joint work of the republican and federal government aimed at the successful organization of XXVII World Summer Student Games has not been neglected by one of the top functionaries of the International University Sports Federation Stavros Duvis.

"I am happy to be here at the opening of this unique complex. I was impressed with all sports facilities of Kazan. But even more I was impressed with the people who are preparing to the Universiade 2013 led by Igor Shuvalov, Rustam Minnikhanov and Ilsur Metshin. All this gives me the right to declare that the Universiade in Kazan will be unforgettable”, the Chairman of the FISU technical committee said.
