(KZN.RU,
April 27, Anton Nozdrin). The signing of an agreement on bilateral cooperation
between the capitals of Tatarstan and Latvia was held in the Kazan City Hall.
Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, and Nil Ushakov, the Mayor of Riga, signed
the document.
I. Metshin
greeted the guest and noted that Riga is a hospitable, beautiful, and advanced
city in many directions. The Mayor of Kazan also thanked N. Ushakov for
assistance in the restoration of direct air communication between the cities.
“I hope our cooperation will be productive”, said I. Metshin.
The Mayor
of Riga noted that the opening of a direct flight is a great breakthrough in
economic, cultural, and business bonds. The schedule is drawn up in such a way
that flights to other European cities start after the arrival of the plane from
Kazan in the morning. And in the evening, an airplane from Riga to the capital
of Tatarstan leaves after the arrival of planes from other European cities.
The
agreement on cooperation between Riga and Kazan involves the exchange of
experience and experts in the field of local government, culture, sports,
education, and tourism. Also, the parties plan to cooperate on the issues of
environmental protection, social protection, and healthcare.
“It is
symbolic that Nil Ushakov flew the first direct flight that connects Kazan and
Riga. Great opportunities for flights to cities around the world open through
Riga”, said I. Metshin answering journalists' questions after signing the
agreement.
N. Ushakov
marked that the main direction of the foreign policy of Riga is the building of
economic, cultural, friendly bonds with the regions of Russia. “We are
sincerely glad that now we are cooperating with such an important and promising
region as Tatarstan and Kazan. Now we are counting on the flow of tourists and
investments, on the development of the economy in both directions”, N. said
Ushakov. According to him, residents of Latvia will be interested in visiting
the capital of Tatarstan and guests from our republic will be welcomed in
Latvia.
